Terrific Tilak | Third eye | Shiva Tilak |Unknown Facts

Tilak has an interesting story.

Really?   🤨

Hell yes!!

So you might have seen every other pujari applying a tilak on his forehead...

(Okay, so this guy is painted...But fine😅)

Or

Of course, if you're a Hindu......Every auspicious occasion begins with a tilak...You know it!

But you're here to know the story, right?

Hinduism has always been a huge reservoir of traditions, one of which is the application of tilak. Considered sacred for centuries, it is an integral part of every auspicious occasion for Hindus. So what is that thing actually doing to us?

Well...

Let us first talk about the place where it is applied.

Ajna Chakra- The Third eye

Also called the third eye chakra, Ajna chakra is a direct link to the Brahman, i.e. wholeness. (Not a caste!!)

It is the centre of our thoughts and wisdom. People meditate focusing on this Chakra to achieve peace and prosperity.

If you are someone who feels the Chakra concept is not logical, then let us get into modern-day science.

The Ajna Chakra is an enormous centre of energy. It is placed just in front of the "Pineal gland".
"The pineal gland is a small, pea-shaped gland in the brain. Its function isn’t fully understood. Researchers do know that it produces and regulates some hormones, including melatonin."

Indians knew about this long back.
We have understood that the Ajna Chakra holds a lot of significance, and our sages have meditated using the same knowledge.
(Not talking of the Babas today.)

So, we conclude that the Ajna Chakra has much to do with our thought process and decisions.

The point is Tilak bhi is jigah lagaya jaata hai.
The tilak concept has begun from the Ajna Chakra.

How does Tilak work?

If you are an Indian, you might have heard that "Haldi ki teaser garam hoti hai".
That means Haldi has more of the fire element in it.
In simple words, Haldi creates warmth and increases the temperature of the body.

What about Chandan (Sandalwood)?

It is extremely cooling!

The story begins here.

Every time you apply tilak to your forehead on the Ajna Chakra, you activate a particular kind of energy in your mind.
Mind?

Nonsense!
Not actually.

The Ajna Chakra is responsible for your thoughts and wisdom. Also, we are all aware of the fact of how thinking and reacting is different for different people. My Dad and I react aggressively to situations while my Mom is a cool person.
So the reacting temperature of our minds is different. We can try managing that.

On applying Haldi, you give yourself a warm energy boost. It energizes your mind and can support in making a lazy person active.

On the other hand, on applying Chandan, your mind calms down and gets a cooling effect. Pacifying people like me.

Do understand that I am not talking of the chemical Kumkum here. It is a highly distorted version of the original Kumkum.

Let us get into the types of Tilaks used by the magnificent Indians!

Types of Tilaks

1. Kumkum

Originally made of turmeric, alum, or lime, Kumkum has lost its original form and identity. The chemical kumkum available in the market is a malformed version of the kumkum used in ancient India.

Here are a few benefits of applying kumkum:
(Note: Kumkum was largely used by married women)

A. Increased blood supply and glowing skin

The blood supply to the face muscles is tremendously increased. While applying kumkum, the points on the mid-brow region and Adnya-chakra are automatically activated. This boosts the blood supply to the facial muscles and brings glow the face of married women.

B. Kumkum has pranic energies

It gives energy to your aura!
The vibrations of the saviour Shakti Principle present in the woman are awakened.
Due to kumkum, obstacles are created in the entry of the negative energies in the woman's body through the Adnya-chakra.
Heard of good vibes?
It begins here.

C. Fragrance and hormonal effects

Aromatherapies?
Nah!

We Indians are multiskilled since always. Using Kumkum not just to look beautiful and imbibe positive vibes, but also for its fragrance.
Due to the fragrance of kumkum, the subtle excretory air in the woman’s body is disintegrated. Particles of Absolute Fire Element (Tej-tattva) are emitted through the colour pigments present in the kumkum and are gained by the woman.

Fragrances are known to play with your hormones. Kumkum did that correctly.

2. Haldi

Being an essential part of every Indian curry, Haldi has also paved its path into the tilak culture.

Why?

1. Skin benefits

Haldi face wash?
Haldi faces pack??
Haldi face mask???
No denial in the fact that Haldi does wonders to your skin! Let us welcome it on the forehead then.

2. The fire element

Haldi ki taseer garam hoti hai.
All of us have heard this! But how is it relatable to tilak science?
Haldi when comes in contact with the Ajna Chakra energizes it.

It is supportive in getting you active!

3. Chandan

My Savior!!
Chandan is cool!😎

With myriad benefits, Chandan has remarkably worked for short-tempered people in calming them down.

1. Tan removal

The Indian Summer Season gifts you a lot of tan every year. Sandalwood acts as a tan remover and brings out your natural glow.
This is why you see all white foreheads and not just a dot tilak when it comes to Chandan.

2. The cooling properties

Ever seen Lord Shiva?
His white tilak is chandan.
Why?
The answer is simple. Lord Shiva's anger was fierce, that is why he applied chandan on his forehead.

Even today, pure Chandan is used for cooling purposes. It did its work on the Ajna chakra to cool down people.

Hope you got to know that Tilak has science and isn't a mere meaningless tradition!
